Review: TomboyX Tucking Bikini
Is it just me or is it just hard to find good reviews of tucking underwear? It’s probably just me, I have probably just been looking in all the wrong places, I’m too old for Google… back in my day we used an encyclopedia… in the snow… uphill both ways…
For real though, at this point I feel like I would have better luck finding the actual Holy Grail than the review I am looking for – specifically the TomboyX Tucking Bikini. Am I being over-dramatic? Probably. But, seriously, I really did look for a good, comprehensive review and came up pretty empty-handed (please give me links to reviews if you know of something I’m missing).
Since I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I’ve decided to just write it myself. Then I’ll time travel… and post the review in the past… so that I can find it when I’m searching for it… yes… the plan is all coming together nicely.
Tucking is not really a topic I am well versed in, do you want to talk about packing? Let’s go, I’m ready! But tucking is a bit outside my wheelhouse, so I’ve enlisted the help of my extremely wonderful (and beautiful, and amazing, and brilliant…) girlfriend to help me put together a review of the TomboyX Tucking Bikini.
I actually gifted this particular pair of tucking panties to my partner a few months back, sometime in December. Not really knowing much about them (you know, because I couldn’t find a review…) and just hoping they would be comfortable and maybe even useful.
Will the fit make my butt look amazing?
My girlfriend typically wears a size medium underwear and the particular pair I gave her from TomboyX was a size small. I was worried that they would end up being too small, but she assured me that sizing down was preferable, because she wants her tucking underwear to be on the tighter side. She says that the TomboyX tucking bikini fit snugly and provided a secure compression that maintained her tuck all day long.
Another thing worth noting is that my partner has had an orchiectomy, so that is something that may affect her experience with how the TomboyX Tucking bikini fits versus someone who is tucking with their testicles still present.
TomboyX does offer a pretty wide range of sizes for their tucking underwear, starting at XS all the way through to a 4X. However, their current availability is pretty lacking (depending on the color you select… if you want boring tan… you can have your pick of sizes). At the time of this review TomboyX is out of stock on many of the sizes, though I am hoping this is just a temporary state (a sign of their popularity) and not an indication that they are discontinuing their tucking bikini.
Why tuck with these and not something else?
Before owning the TomboyX Tucking Bikini, my girlfriend’s experience with tucking undies consisted of a couple pairs of handmade and purchased through Etsy tucking underwear and a homemade gaff worn with your average store-bought underwear. The Etsy underwear is made of a thinner material and doesn’t support both front and between-the-legs tucking in the same way the TomboyX pair does. She also says that the TomboyX Tucking Bikini is more comfortable than using a gaff, as the gaff tends to leave pressure lines in her skin. Also, its easier to just pull on a pair of panties without having to mess with the gaff.
My girlfriend prefers to tuck towards the back, with the penis going between the legs. She says the TomboyX Tucking Bikini works really well for this, but if you preferred leaving everything to the front, the underwear does a pretty good job of smoothing and rounding out the bulge too.
She wore the TomboyX Tucking Bikini out on one of our road trips, which meant sitting in the car for about four hours straight, and she was happy to report that the underwear was breathable so she didn’t sweat all over them and after our long day in the car, there was no funky smell. I feel like this is important, I’ve definitely owned underwear that looked nice but as soon as I got hot or sat for too long I ended up brewing a sweaty stinky swamp (TMI?).
Alright, I’m sold… but are they fun?
The color selection isn’t the most exciting. You can purchase the bikini Black and Chai (which is just a fancy word for boring tan). I’m not knocking the good ol’ solid colored basic pair of underwear… there are times when you don’t want your loud print underwear showing through your clothes… but my butt craves excitement. I love wearing underwear with patterns, cartoon characters, and loud colors.
Patterned underwear also tends to look more femme and the solid black or tan may be a turn off to some. I also recognize that super femme may not exactly be TomboyX’s aesthetic either and also not everyone who tucks is femme. These are functional but still pretty flattering – I mean, just take a look at all these pictures, my partner made them look pretty good.
So, I guess what I’m saying is… yes, neutrals are classic… but… please put dinosaurs on my butt. Pretty please? Never mind that externally all my clothes say please don’t perceive me I want my underwear to say… maybe I’m fun, on a good day.
The price tag on these undies is a bit steep, but also about what I would expect to pay for something of good quality. I’ve paid for underwear at Victoria’s Secret that cost more and lasted half as long as I imagine these will. But I’m also a buy my underwear in bulk at Target kind of person, so $25 per pair makes me gasp a little bit, even though I know the quality makes it a worth while purchase.
TL;DR? Here’s the nitty gritty.
The TomboyX Tucking Bikini is a comfortable pair of underwear that is good at maintaining a tuck all day via gentle compression. What some people use gaffs, two pairs of underwear or tape to do, the TomboyX underwear does all on its own, which has the potential to simplify the tucking process. Functional and flattering, these are a solid pair of underwear. When I asked my girlfriend if she would recommend the TomboyX Tucking Bikini, she responded with “I wish they were clean right now, so I could wear them.” So, we definitely do recommend!
