So, you know how when you go over to Grandma’s house for dinner she’s got that one cabinet somewhere in the corner of the dining room or living room that is full of beautiful dishes you have never seen her use? That is sort of how I feel about the Désirables Dalia… it is just so beautiful I almost feel like it shouldn’t be for everyday use… it is for those special masturbation sessions… or something. I don’t have a whole lot of experience with porcelain toys, but between this beautiful Dalia and the quirky My Fucsia Gustavo, I have really become convinced that porcelain toys should be for every day use! Free the porcelain! Don’t be like Grandma! Don’t save it for special occasions!
Porcelain is really quite a lovely material for a dildo: it is non-porous, hypo-allergenic, and super amazing for temperature play! Every Désirables piece is handmade near Montreal, Canada using Limoges porcelain. Limoges porcelain is a hard-paste porcelain (which, if I am understanding correctly, is fired at higher temperatures than soft-paste and often ends up resembling stoneware or earthenware) that has been produced since the 18th century by factories near Limoges, France (oooh France, so fancy…). The hard-paste Limoges porcelain is a fairly robust material and is less likely to crack when exposed to hot liquids… making it the perfect material for both tea cups and temperature play dildos! This porcelain toy is also hollow inside (but don’t worry, the walls are thick and you will not break this just by touching it), making it a fantastically light toy (weighing in at only 4.8 oz) that may be especially beneficial to those who fatigue quickly or are unable (or just don’t like) to lift or grasp anything with too much weight. If I’m masturbating with my left hand, I tire out quickly (as a result of breaking both my elbow and my wrist years ago), so light toys like this help me not get too exhausted too quickly.
With my first Porcelain dildo I was super concerned that it would be fragile and it would break (I felt this way about glass toys too… but all of those have turned out to be sturdy as fuck). As it turns out, porcelain toys are pretty dang durable… the likelihood of it just spontaneously breaking on you (or in you) is pretty slim, so you really shouldn’t have any fears about them. However, shocking your porcelain may lead to breakage… so try not to drop it on the floor (although being the butterfingers that I am, I’ve already dropped the Dalia several times and it’s still in one piece, but that’s been on carpeted floors… something harder might be a different story). Changing its temperature drastically (like thinking you want to play with it cold and popping it into the freezer then changing your mind and deciding you want to warm it up and dropping it right into boiling water) could also stress it out and cause it to break. But, just normal usage… you should have no fear! For real, porcelain can be extremely durable, if you’ve ever been to a museum no doubt you have seen porcelain artifacts laying about. Seriously, it can literally last hundreds of years… take good care of the Dalia and archeologists will be excavating this toy from your grave hundreds of years from now. But still, accidents happen… which is why Désirables has an “Oops Policy.” The Oops Policy is a 5 year warranty that comes with their porcelain products, so if you unintentionally break your porcelain sex toy, just send them some photos of it and they will replace it! That’s a pretty slick deal if you ask me.
You don’t have to urn the use of this toy.
The Dalia is so super simple… yet so super wonderful. I am absolutely in love with this dildo right now. The shape kind of reminds me of the much loved LELO Mona (a toy with as much legendary status as the famed Njoy Pure Wand), as a double ended toy with two very different ends designed with two different purposes in mind. The smaller and more rounded end of the Désirables Dalia is designed with kegel exercises in mind. I know, I know… when I read that little blurb in the (really nifty) instruction booklet the toy came with I was all… whaaaaaat? I’ve never really thought about using a dildo for kegel exercises… but the more I mulled the idea over the more I realized… but why not?! The idea with this design being that the slimmer, elongated shape and rounded head allows your muscles to surround the Dalia and allows you to contract and squeeze the muscles around the toy. Basically you would do more or less the same kegel work out you might do with kegel balls, only you wouldn’t be able to insert the Dalia and walk around all day with it inside, doing your kegels. It’s more of a sit down and work on your kegels with intention while you hold onto the toy (the included booklet has more ideas/instructions for using the Dalia for kegels). It is a very neat idea. But, if the idea of exercising while you masturbate is just totally a no-go for you (Exercise?! Who has time for that?!) you can still use this slimmer end for thrusting or rubbing or exploring or whatever else you think you may enjoy with a smaller sized toy.
The other end of the Dalia has been designed with g-spot exploration and stimulation in mind. This end is much girthier then the other end and has more of a pointed end to it. The pointed tip makes it quite easy to insert and does a fantastic job of seeking out my g-spot and allows me to put some pressure up against it. Once I felt the cool porcelain head bump against my g-spot I began to slide the toy in and out at a steady pace and honestly… it did not take long for me to reach my desired outcome… a toe-curling orgasm. The firmness of the porcelain is just so ideal for what I want in a g-spot toy, it really allows me to put some hard, deep pressure against my g-spot. The Dalia is honestly probably my dream toy for g-spotting (it is right up there with the Njoy Pure Wand for sure). I feel like I should also mention that the smaller end of the Dalia was also perfectly capable of achieving g-spot stimulation and orgasm for me, but I very much prefer the girthier end, because I like feeling something a little more substantial when I’m squeezing against something.
The entire length of the toy is 7 inches, and how much of that is insertable comes down to how much of the toy you need to use as a handle. For me, I use the smaller end of the toy as the handle gripping down near the bottom, so I end up with about a La Croix can amount of insertable length… okay, that isn’t an offical form of measurment, I just can’t find where I put the damn tape measure (and I swear I just had it). Hold on… let’s take a break here, I’ll look for my tape measure… you can grab a glass of water, maybe do a few stretches; you look like you’ve been sitting at the computer for too long anyway. Okay, so it looks like I tend to stick to about 5.5 to 6 inches of insertable length, which feels more than adequate for me. And while we are talking measurements, the kegel side of the Dalia looks to have a maximum girth of 3.9 inches while the bigger g-spotting end has a maximum girth of about 4.5 inches (also, I’m working with like a carpenter’s tape measure right now… it’s all I could find, so I may be off by zero-point-something of an inch, but I feel like this should still be pretty accurate). It isn’t an overly enormous toy, and if you prefer much deeper stimulation, you may find the Dalia a bit frustrating, but personally I find it quite satisfying. But I am a girth over length sort of person.
It won’t kiln you to experiment.
As far as lube goes, you are free to use whatever kind of lube your little heart desires. Unlike silicone toys, there are no restrictions to what works with the porcelain material. Also, I find that the Dalia really holds onto lube well and still somehow manages to retain its matte texture in use. Rather than feeling all slippy and slidey and like I just have a vagina full of lube, I can still feel that kind of subtly rough, matte texture dragging against my vaginal walls. And while maybe the way I’ve described it doesn’t sound at all appealing, it actually feels really nice, which is a bonus for anyone who enjoys a more tactile experience (like me). I’m trying to think of a good way to describe how the texture of the Dalia feels and the best I can think of is high school art class… so in high school we had a section where we worked with clay and we made things like terrible, lopsided bowls, butt-ugly vases or ashtrays to give to people we knew didn’t smoke but hey… who doesn’t want a homemade ashtray? I remember after putting these things into the kiln they would come out with kind of a vaguely gritty but still very smooth feeling texture… that is what holding the Dalia reminds me of… the unglazed pottery we made in high school. But the Dalia is 100 times better than anything that came out of the high school kiln.
And as if a lovely toy wasn’t enough, the Dalia also comes with some pretty nifty extras. First off is the booklet I’ve already mentioned above. It says it is an instruction manual… but it goes above and beyond any instruction booklet I have ever come across. Not only does it have the basic instructions you would expect with a sex toy, but it also covers things like intimacy, fantasies, a pretty comprehensive (at least for a sex toys manual) look at the g-spot and how to do kegels. I am pretty impressed with this little booklet! Also included with the Dalia is a handy storage pouch, a certificate of authenticity, and of course the sturdy box that it all arrived in (which is how I’m continuing to store my toy).
One slightly disappointing thing about the Dalia isn’t anything about the toy itself, but rather its marketing on the box. It calls the Dalia an “explorer for ladies.” It’s 2023 and I feel like we should have realized by now that not all people who have vaginas are ladies and not all ladies have vaginas. While it may sound romantic or feminine (which may be the aesthetic they are trying to achieve) to say it is a toy for ladies, Désirables would be far better off leaving out the gendering of the toy.
The Désirables Dalia does have a bit of a price tag, it currently retails for $115.00… which is pricey (although for a toy of this quality, I think it’s entirely reasonable and I am surprised it’s not more expensive), but with proper care, the Dalia should last you literally forever… like I said, some attractive Indiana Jones type will be digging this out of your grave and displaying it in a museum. An elegant and well designed toy, I give it two thumbs up! I was going to say “two labia up” because for some reason I thought it would be “clever” to talk more about my genitals… but it sounded really stupid and I quickly erased it, so you are welcome for me not doing that.
TLDR; You should fancy the Dalia.
Overall, the Désirables is an absolutely beautiful piece of art and a really effective sex toy. If you are new to porcelain toys, but have previously enjoyed glass or stone toys, I think you will really enjoy the porcelain Dalia. If you know you like firm toys, again, I think you will enjoy the Dalia. If you are looking for a g-spot toy that isn’t too intimidating (I sometimes think the dramatic curve of the Njoy and its reputation make it a somewhat intimidating buy for people), I really do think you’ll enjoy the Désirables Dalia. I highly recommend the Dalia, especially if you are looking for a firm g-spotting toy that also looks like a gorgeous bit of modern/minimalist art, or are looking to try something new or something other than silicone, or looking for your next great sensation/temperature play toy!
